Seahawk Fever...Or Some Other Pyretic Problem...

Just once, it would be sweet to have something in Seattle to be proud of besides the Microsoft Empire.  Because, when it comes to sports teams, this city is a metropolis of "almosts".

We almost won the Super Bowl last year...almost.  And the Seattle Supersonics almost made it to the final  two in their 2004 season (I think).  And don't forget our almost Mariners baseball team...of course, based on the performance THIS season, we'd almost like to forget them!

We don't have much here that brings the entire city together, except standing in the shadow of a Starbucks Coffee shop on nearly every corner...IF one drinks coffee, that is.  Most of the time, we're a city of diversity, a city of varying opinions, and a city of controversial issues...those are actually the very reasons most people choose to call Seattle home.

We're a little snobbish if you ask us about our weather...that's a given...and yes, it DOES rain here (We know you're a tourist if you're carrying an umbrella!).  But if you ask us about our Seattle Seahawks NFL football team this year, you're liable to get a warm response...that is, if you say something "nice" about them.

So why am I (of all people) writing about football in an MS blog today?  Well...thank goodness you've asked (and there is a "loose" connection here)!  Because my MS buddy, Suzy, in Chicago (pronounced Chee Kag Oh) has accepted my Sunday Night Football challenge:  The Chicago Bears vs. the Seattle Seahawks!!!

Yep...they're going head to head tomorrow on NBC.  My Hawks, her Bears.  So just to keep things "interesting", I challenged her to a Loser Sends All competition.  That means, if my Hawks lose, I will be sending a humble pie package of Pacific Northwest goodies to Chicago...maybe a bit of smoked salmon, some Starbucks coffee, a bit of See's candies, and of course the token souvenir shot glass with the Space Needle printed on it!

But since I am sooooo incredibly confident the Hawks will win tomorrow night's match up, I'm hoping for a few trinkets from Oprah...she's in Chicago, right?!?  Maybe one of those new cars she's been giving away...

Well, there is always SBC ... and the Grunge movement ... and MTV had a RealWorld series there just off the ViaDuct ... umm, Orca Islands ... Yeah, and Dark Angel was set there ... Mmmm, Jessica Alba ... mmmm.  {AHEM} .. yes.  A wonderous city.  Too bad the Stadium looks like a giant Sarcophagus.  But I do like the 'Underground' part of your fine down-town area. ... and the monorail ...

MDMHVONPA:  Golly gee, Batman...one might even think by your comment you have visited the Emerald City!?!  Wait...that's mixing too many movie metaphors in one sentence...I'll stick with the Oz theme for now!  And remember to please ignore the man behind the curtain...it's probably just Bill Gates anyway.

I was touched by the sweet rivalry between Suzy and Linda re this football game they are betting on and would have been content to read a blog imforming me who won!   Damn it!   I have just read in my Sunday paper that my Sunday night tv viewing will be ruined---the game is important enough (NFL? lol) to be broadcast on the East Coast tonight!   A Patriots fan here.

HARKOO:  Shhhh!  I haven't told Suzy this "challenge" is actually a BET!!!  I'm hoping she doesn't figure that out, because I'm not sure she's really the "gambling" type...and I NEED my Oprah crap!!!

Patriots?!?  Are they still good enough to participate in the NFL???

Well, well, well.....I'm not going to rub my fave MS friends nose in anything at this point....even if we ARE AT  the start of the 4th quarter and we BEARS are up by 28 points.  34-6, is it?????

Ahhh, and I just drove by Oprah's place today and was confident that I didn't need to stop at the souvenier store....lol.

I wasn't however, aware of Seattle's great love of their Seahawks.  Now I'm feeling even a tad more guilty of my poor friends disgrace.

Eagerly awaiting that Seattle and Starbucks package.  Ahhhh....Carmel Frappacino....my all time favorite, but alas I don't want to jinx my beloved Bears...so I'll wait this one out!

=)

SUZY:  Serving up my first piece of humble pie and leafing through the "Made In Washington" store ads in preparation for your package...Dayum...this pie tastes awful!!!

HARKOO:  I knew something jinxed us!!!!  A PATRIOTS fan eyeing the Seahawk/Bears game...you Easterners have your way with us West Coast peeps all the time.  Now if I can just convince Suzy it was your jinx that made my Hawks look so pathetic...  LOL
